The Hereschicago.com Street Team joined Absolutely Chicago Segway Tours for a haunted Chicago segway tour around Chicago.  This Haunted Tour is the first of its kind in Chicago.  As you will see in our Flip Cam video, their Ghoulish Guides were our ghost hunters on this guided segway tour. They escorted us to the most mysteriously haunted locations in Downtown Chicago while relating the stories of Chicago’s Haunted Hotels, houses, ghosts, murders, and gruesome disasters.

Too little for the Yule Log Hunt?  Join in the “Yule Twig Hunt.”  Kids entering the Children’s Garden receive a clue as to another location, where they will find a clue to a third location, and the process repeats through six clues. The reward is a lovely little yule twig with a red ribbon that youngsters take home with them. This drop-in, self-guided activity is fun for parents and their kids, and provides a memorable outdoors experience. All ages, The Children’s Garden.

HUSKY HEROES – 3 ACTIVITIES

See Siberian husky sled dogs demonstrating their skill during “Dogsled Spectacular.” Additionally see a demonstration of skijoring, where these strong pups pull a person on cross country skis. After watching the demonstrations, guests may come and pet these burly beauties. Dress for the weather! All ages, Visitor Center area.
January 24 and 25: 11 a.m. – 4 p.m.

Greet the amazing Husky canines and sign up to foster or adopt a husky that’s without a home during “Meet the Huskies.” Visitors can fill out an application if they are interested in adopting one of the beautiful animals. All ages, Visitor Center.

Discover the husky’s amazing role in Alaskan history and how they saved lives, during “Husky Legacy.” This presentation traces the ways these dogs worked with humans from the early twentieth century. The film, The Last Great Race, shows how the huskies’ prowess gave rise to an annual competition. Complimentary tickets are available at the Visitor Center one hour prior to this event. All ages, Administration Building.

January 24 and 25: 12, 1:30 and 3 p.m.

Minneapolis Guitar Quartet performs an array of first-rate recital and orchestra repertoire, ranging from Renaissance and Baroque to Spanish, Latin American, and Romantic to highly imaginative works during “Chamber Concert: Minneapolis Guitar Quartet.” The performance is followed by a reception. Thornhill Education Center.
January 11: 2:15 – 4:15 p.m.

Join us for a buffet lunch and program presented by Dr. Jim Ballowe, an author and distinguished Professor Emeritus who spent years researching the life of Arboretum founder Joy Morton during “Lunch and Learn: Joy Morton’s Lasting Legacy.” Ballowe will discuss how and why Mr. Morton came to build the great Morton Arboretum. Enjoy winter seasonal stories on “The Evergreen Express,” a heated trolley ride around the grounds. Munch on sweet treats and drink cocoa while storytellers recite holiday tales. Learn about Charles Darwin’s magnificent contribution to the world of natural history using the Arboretum’s collections of rare books during “Lunch and Learn: Darwin’s Bicentennial.” Join us for a buffet lunch and program presented by Arboretum botanist Dr. Michael Stieber, Sterling Morton Library administrator. See a lovely collection of themed Christmas trees designed by professional display artists, interior designers and floral designers who showcase their creativity and talents. All ages, Visitor Center.

Journey through the Snow Queen’s kingdom during “The Holiday Railroad.” Twist and turn around her icy land and wind around her frosty palace in this amazing multi-level railroad. All ages, Visitor Center Events Room.
January 2 – 4: 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.

Who’s that popping through the evergreens? Search for tiny gnomes hiding in the Children’s Garden during the drop-in activity: “Going on a Gnome Hunt.” Each gnome holds a secret message, can you find them all? All ages, The Children’s Garden.
Daily through February 28 (weather permitting)

Go on a scavenger hunt, build a snowman and learn about snow. Enjoy these activities and many more on a “Cool Kids Nature Hike,” which takes children on an adventure to learn about winter’s wonders. After the 20-minute activity, the kids enjoy a cup of hot cocoa. Hike themes change every two weeks and depend on weather conditions. All ages, The Children’s Garden.

Unless otherwise specified, all Arboretum events and destinations including the Children’s Garden are free with Arboretum admission, which is:
$10 per person ($6 on Wednesday), ages 18-64
$9 per person, ($5 on Wednesday), ages 65 and over
$7 per person, ($4 on Wednesday), ages 3-17
(Under age 3 is free)

Conveniently located at I-88 and Rte. 53 in Lisle, Illinois, the Arboretum is open 7 days a week, 365 days a year, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Central Time or sunset, whichever is earlier. The Children’s Garden is open from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., March through October, and 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., November through February.
