THE PROFESSIONAL BOWLERS ASSOCIATION IS COMING TO CHICAGO

For the first time in 47 years, the world’s best professional bowlers will be competing in downtown Chicago Sunday, May 29 thru Wednesday, June 1 in the GEICO PBA Team Shootout at upscale 10pin bowling lounge in the landmark Marina City complex.

The tournament features some of the sport’s top stars, including Chicago legend and PBA Hall of Famer Carmen Salvino – the only bowler ever elected to the Chicago Sports Hall of Fame; Yorkville’s Steve Jaros, Montgomery’s Sean Rash and other contemporary PBA champions.

The PBA Team Shootout will feature five-player teams representing the bowling industry’s four leading bowling ball manufacturing companies:

Brunswick, Ebonite International, defending champion Storm Products and 900 Global. Each team will bowl a series of singles and doubles matches leading up to the stepladder finals that will determine the winner of the Manufacturers Cup. In the team finals, all five team members bowl two frames to complete a game.

With sexy servers, classic Celtic décor, traditional pub food and sports all under one roof, the new Tilted Kilt Pub & Eatery in Chicago is sure to create a local sensation.

The Tilted Kilt, a sports bar that pays homage to the old public houses of America, England, Scotland and Ireland, will open its newest franchise location at 17 North Wabash, 2nd Floor in Chicago, on May 14, 2009

“Initially, guests are drawn in for the girls. But what keeps them coming back is the great food, the selection of drinks and the unbeatable atmosphere,” said Tilted Kilt President Ron Lynch. “This is a modern sports pub that carries out the traditions of old-world pubs, one burger and one beer at a time.”

At Tilted Kilt, the entire experience follows the theme of a theatrical production. Servers are called “cast members,” wearing mini-kilts made of the Tilted Kilt’s own registered tartan plaid, a starched camp shirt, sporran, stockings and flashings. When a new restaurant is hiring, the “directors” (store managers) hold a “casting call” where servers audition to be part of the “show.” They are trained to be the “star” and the act starts the minute a guests walks through the door.

“We put a huge emphasis on recruiting warm personalities and training staff to make connections with every guest,” Lynch said. “From start to finish, our guests keep coming back because they feel part of the production.”

The menu is a mix of traditional pub food like fish & chips and shepherds pie, but also features creations like drunken clams, meatloaf and pasta dishes. Beers from around the world are available, and as the famed Tilted Kilt slogan goes, “A Cold Beer Never Looked So Good.”

It’s not just the cast members that look good at Tilted Kilt. The architectural features at every location remind guests they are in a classy establishment. Dark mahogany wood fills the bar and the stained glass doors and wainscoting add to the charm. Combined with pool tables, dart boards and large plasma TVs, Tilted Kilt is the best place to watch sports and hang out with friends. Humorous and slightly bawdy limericks are even seen throughout the pub, creating an atmosphere that is fun and entertaining.

For female guest enjoyment, Tilted Kilt also recruits “cast members” as male bartenders who wear the Tilted Kilt uniform. All female cast members are trained to interact with women who enter the establishment – before looking at the men.

By the end of 2009, company executives expect to have 50 Tilted Kilt restaurants open across the United States. Since first starting to franchise in 2006, 100 potential Tilted Kilt franchisees were already in line to go through the qualification process, many of which were regular patrons who wanted a Tilted Kilt of their own. New restaurants will soon be open in Houston, Tampa, Denver, St. Louis, Nashville, Atlanta and other communities.

Lexington College Features Bounty of the Midwest Open House Event

CHICAGO – Lexington College hosted the “Taste of Lexington” event on Thursday, March 12 at the West Loop campus. This year’s theme, “Bounty of the Midwest” focused on fresh, natural flavors. The College welcomed over 200 guests including prospective students, families of current students, and executives of hospitality related businesses in the Chicagoland area.

The event provided an opportunity to meet students, faculty and staff, tour the campus, and enjoy hors d’oeuvres prepared by Lexington students.

Bruce Kraig, an internationally recognized food historian, host and writer for a series of award-winning food documentaries signed copies of his new book, Hot Dog – A Global History. Other events included tours of Lexington’s facilities, culinary lab demonstrations, interactive food stations and internship presentation displays.
